Arvind Kejriwal Government approves additional fund for MCDs
The Delhi government on Thursday approved the release of an additional fund of Rs. 442.78 crores to the three (Municipal Corporations of Delhi) MCDs.
The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Approving the additional funds, the Cabinet said that the fund released should be used only to make payments to sanitation workers, including their salaries. The fund has been released for the betterment of the sanitation workers who had complained of not getting salaries and other payments from their respective corporations, said a release.
On Wednesday, a delegation of sanitation workers under the aegis of Swachhta Karamchari Union called on Chief Minister Kejriwal and briefed him about the financial problems being faced by the sanitation workers of the MCDs.
Kejriwal assured the delegation to release an additional fund for their salaries.
The Chief Minister had told the delegation that the government was paying the MCDs much more than what was paid in the preceding years.
According to Delhi Government, Rs. 287.72 crore was released to the East Delhi Municipal Corporation in 2016-17, while it got Rs 287.72 in 2013-14. Similarly, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation received Rs. 808.77 crores in 2013-14 compared to Rs. 1318.26 crore in 2016-17.
