Anti-CAA protests at Jama Masjid: Protesters stopped near Delhi Gate, six metro stations closed
Protesters moving towards Jantar Mantar from Jama Masjid in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) have been stopped near Delhi Gate on Friday afternoon. The police has barricaded the area.
The protest march by the Bhim Army reached Delhi Gate, however, it was stopped by the police and paramilitary personnel.
Meanwhile, the entry and exit gates of Delhi Gate, Jaffrabad, Jamia Millia Islamia and Maujpur-Babarpur have been closed. Trains will not be halting at these stations.
On the other hand, police had tried to detain Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar Azad, during the protest at Jama Masjid against Citizenship Amendment Act but he was taken out of the spot by his supporters.
Azad had been detained after the protest along with hundreds of supporters, during which he shouted slogans and waved flags from the steps of the historic mosque and dramatically defying the police.
However, he managed to escape from the police.
He was detained soon after.

"All protests have been normal and congregational Friday prayers were held peacefully. They said the situation at Jama Masjid has been normal with the protestors showing banners and posters of Mahatama Gandhi," said Delhi police officials.
