Allahabad: Kashmiri student expelled for anti-national comments on social media post; case registered

A final year Kashmiri student has been expelled by the Sam Higginbottom University of Agriculture, Technology and Sciences (SHUATS) in Allahabad after he allegedly posted anti-India comments on a social networking site, police said.

A case has been registered against the student under the Information Technology Act, HT reported.

As per HT reports, he was a final year student of BSc (Biotechnology). Police said that on the basis of the complaint filed by the deputy director (Administration) and chief security officer of the university, Jai Narayan Sing, Naini filed a first information report (FIR) against the student under the Information Technology Act.

However, further action will be taken against the student after the proper investigation into the matter by the local intelligence unit (LIU).

SHUATS administration also submitted the screenshots of the comments that the Kashmiri student had posted on the social media site, including lodging FIR. In the comments, the student had posted some abusive anti-national comments.

It has been noted that many youths have misused the use of social media by spreading fake news or by posting anti-national comments on their social media handles.

Amid tension between India and Pakistan, much fake news have been spread on social media due to which the tensions were escalated. After the Pulwama attack on CRPF convoy, many people in India have raised anti-national slogans on social media.

Even a student from Aligarh Muslim University took to Twitter and posted a comment against the nation. However, his Twitter account was deleted later on.
