Akhilesh Yadav defends Azam Khan’s ‘Khaki underwear’ remark: He wasn’t talking about Jaya Prada
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav finally broke his silence on the controversy over the ‘derogatory’ remark made by senior party leader Azam Khan, against Jaya Prada. Reacting on the controversy, Akhilesh Yadav defended Azam Khan and said he had not made any such statement.
Reportedly, in a rally in Rampur, Azam Khan made a ‘Khaki underwear’ remark against Jaya Prada--- former colleague and BJP rival. Khan made the statement in the presence of Akhilesh Yadav, which was caught on camera. An FIR has been filed against Azam Khan in Rampur.
"He was talking about someone else. We are Samajwadis, we never use foul language for women," Yadav said in a rally in Moradabad.
“SP is a party that respects women and Khan’s statement was in context with another leader. Maybe, the media is showing a manipulated and edited video,” he said.
Akhilesh Yadav’s response came hours after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned Khan's remark and took swipe at ‘two former CMs’ (Akhilesh and Mayawati) over their silence on Azam Khan’s remark.
"The mean and indecent remark against Jaya Prada reflects the mean mindset and personality of Azam Khan," the Uttar Pradesh chief minister said in a tweet.
"The silence of Akhilesh Yadav over it is shameful indeed. And the silence of Mayawati, despite her being a woman, indicates that for the sake of power, they are ready to do and put up with anything," he said.
