AIADMK MLA's verdict: Madras High Court upholds verdict of Assembly speaker on 18 disqualified legislators

The Madras High Court will be pronouncing a verdict into the case of 18 disqualified MLA’s who have been loyal Dhinakaran at 10:30 am today.

18 MLA’s then had presented a letter to the then Governor Vidyasagar Rao pulling out their support from the AIADMK government led by E Palaniswami, who was then Chief Minister in September last year.

The resort politics returned to Tamil Nadu, after fearing a horse trading, Dhinakaran instructed all the 18 disqualified MLA’s in his camp to shift to a resort in Tirunelveli.

If the Madras High Court holds the disqualification of MLA’s as illegal, then the ruling AIADMK will fall short of the magic number of majority, which is 117. Although, if the verdict favors the legality of the disqualification, then a by-election would be held in those constituencies.

This judgment has the power to shaken up the entire politics of the Tamil Nadu, which has been reeling under political vacuum since the former Chief Minister Jayalalitha had passed away.

CR Saraswathi, spokesperson of the Dhinakaran faction told Moneycontrol that, "We are waiting for the judgement. If the verdict goes against us and the Speaker’s decision to disqualify the MLAs is upheld, we will lose men. However, if the verdict is in our favour, we will seek a floor test."

She added that "As it is, they (AIADMK) are running a minority government, we are fighting against this government. We are ready for polls and we will beat them. We know the people’s pulse.”
