Adani-Hindenburg Row: ‘Allow JPC if you have nothing to hide’, says Sachin Pilot to Centre

Former deputy chief minister of Rajasthan and veteran Congress leader Sachin Pilot lambasted the Central Government on February 17 over the Adani-Hindenburg row.

He asked why the Centre is shying away from allowing the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the Hindenburg report accusing Adani Group of several malpractices in accounting.

“Why does the Government of present-day shy away from JPC? Let the probe happen if you have nothing to hide. BJP hasn’t refuted any allegations put by the Hindenburg research papers,”

While addressing a press conference in Bengaluru, Pilot took a pot shot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and said that he had failed to answer a single question over the allegations made on the Adani Group.

“Sadly the PM & his response to the Adani issue questions failed to answer one single question about the group, its activities, its allegations, huge loss of public money, the share market crash & the huge evaluation of the group itself,” Pilot said.

He also highlighted the removal of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and leader Rahul Gandhi’s questions on Adani from the parliament records.

Pilot stated that despite BJP is in power but they don’t have the right to remove questions of opposition leaders from the Parliament proceedings.

“There have been discussions on the crucial Adani issue. When Congress President Kharge or Rahul Gandhi asks questions these questions are expunged from the record. Even if the BJP party is in majority, they don’t have right to remove questions,” he added.

Recently, Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi raised Hindenburg report issue in the parliament and asked PM Modi to reply on them.

Meanwhile, the Supreme Court refused to accept sealed cover names of experts as suggested by Union government for including in the committee to be set up to examine the Adani Group-Hindenburg issue.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India, D Y Chandrachud, said that the court would select the experts itself and maintain full transparency throughout the process.

On February 10, the Apex Court shows concerns over situation and stated that interests of Indian investors need to be protected against market volatility. It also asked the Centre to consider setting up a panel of domain experts headed by a former judge to look into strengthening the regulatory mechanism.
