Aadhaar Case: Centre asks the permission from SC for the PowerPoint presentation to alleviate concerns

In order to alleviate the concerns regarding the Aadhaar act, The Centre asked the Supreme Court’s permission to allow the power point presentation in the court. The presentation will be done by the CEO of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) CEO Dr Ajay Bhushan Pandey if the permission is given.

A bench of Supreme Court judges Justices A K Sikri, A M Khanwilkar, D Y Chandrchud and Ashok Bhush which is being headed by the Chief Justice of India Dipak Mishra is hearing a bunch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of Aadhar Act. CJI Mishra said that the time for the presentation will be fixed after having discussed with other judges.

The bench said that there are several technical aspects pertaining to the Aadhaar Act such as the surveillance, privacy, data security and exclusion of certain citizens from getting benefits, who could not get Aadhaar number and the authentication of the same. These issue needs to be addressed.

Earlier, the court extended the deadline of linking adhaar  to bank account and sim card till the court delivers the judgment on the issue that are currently being heard.

The court also took notice of the submission that a person cannot be forced to part with personal information under the Aadhaar Act on the ground of freedom of right to religion.

Hearing a petition of a Christian man who claimed that Aadhar is against his belief, the bench noted “In secular matters, can you say that I will not opt for it. For example, can a person refuse to opt for the Income-Tax saying that his conscience does not allow it”.
