8-year-old activist Licypriya Kangujam slams Congress for using her name for 'Twitter campaign'

An eight-year-old climate activist, Licypriya Kangujam, who recently rejected a government honour on International Women’s Day to handle Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s social media accounts has now lambasted the Congress party and its leader Shashi Tharoor.

Licypriya, who had urged PM Modi to ‘listen’ to her voice instead of honouring her, restated her demands to the Congress on twitter after the grand old party eulogized her for turning down the centre’s laurels.

"PM Modi's lip service & hypocrisy towards women empowerment has been called out by the brave environmental activist, Licypriya Kangujam. After rejecting his offer, she reminded the PM that listening to her voice is more important than any Twitter campaign," the Congress tweeted.

The 8-year-old, who has rejected comparisons between her and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg, had responded to the party slamming them for using her name for a twitter campaign. She questioned how many Congress MPs are ready to put up her demands in parliament in the ongoing session. She concluded the tweet saying, ‘Who is listening to my voice?”

As soon as, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor responded to her tweet saying, ‘your voice is ours too.’ the MP went on to list what the party is lining up to do for air pollution which did not go down well with Licypriya.

The 8-year-old claimed Shashi Tharoor was changing the course of her question and demands with the air polution policy and restated her demands.

The Congress leader assured her that he is happy to contribute to her demands and pledged to try and raise the demand in parliament ‘at the earliest opportunity’.

The centre had announced Licypriya Kangujam as one of the women achievers to be honoured on Women’s Day. Soon after, in a tweet, the 8-year-old activist warned politicians to "never attempt to use me for your political gains... I'm not in your favour".

Licypriya, whose Twitter bio says ‘a homeless child climate activist’, had thanked the Prime Minister for the honour by rejected it with a tweet.
