On 26th November, India commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attacks, in which at least 166 people have been killed and over 300 people injured.
As ten years back, 10 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists sailed into Mumbai from Karachi to spread the terror in the city. The terrorist attacks in Mumbai lasted till three days, which had been carried out massive bomb explosions and several innocents were kept hostage. After the long hours battle, the terrorists were killed and one was captured, Ajmal Kasab.
He was the sole surviving Pakistani terrorist who was captured in 2008 and has been in jail since then. However, in 2012, Kasab was hanged till death.
But, the total expenditure spent on Kasab was so huge to keep him alive.
As per the reports, the Maharashtra Government has spent over Rs 25 crores to keep him alive since he was captured.
The State Home Minister RR Patil also gave the details about the total expenses spent on him.
Even after the trial began in the Supreme Court, the cost for keeping him alive was a huge burden on the state government. As the government had spent Rs 5,25,00,000 on his high-security cell at Mumbai's Arthur Road jail. His security entrusted to the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has cost the state over Rs. 19 crores.
Also, his medical expenses were cost Rs. 28,066, the state has paid another Rs. 34,975 for his food.
Kasab was the only Pakistani terrorist, who caught alive during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008.
