Karnataka: Spectators gored to death during bull race
In two different incidents, two people were gored to death during Hori Habba, a bull race, in Karnataka’s Shivamogga district. The incidents happened in two villages of the Shivamogga district.
According to reports, Prashanth, aged 36 died during Hori Habba in Gaama village in Shikaripura on Saturday, while Adi, aged 20 lost his life in Jade village in Soraba taluk.
As maintained by the authorities, the organisers had not taken any permission from the police department to organize the bull races, which reportedly led to the two deaths. Bull races are organised as part of Hori Habba, a popular event that is held following Diwali.
Shivamogga SP Mithun Kumr GK said, the police had no information about both incidents as the organisers had not taken permission to host the bull races. He said they have launched a probe into the matter.
The State Home Minister Araga Jnanendra on Sunday stated that the police will take necessary action.
"It is a traditional sport. If there is death, they (the police) will verify it. Organisers should have taken precautions. I will discuss it with district police. If they receive complaints, they will take action,” the home minister said.
