You all have been taught in your schools or from your parents that stay away from the gas cylinders because it may explode. However, they were saying so, just to make us aware that we should be very cautious while in contact with any inflammable products.
In the case of a gas leak, the people should be very careful before going to such places. At such time, one should think properly instead of getting panic. When it comes to our home then, we should be very careful after using the gas stove. Therefore, it is necessary that before using or keeping the gas cylinder, one should know the basic details about how to use it properly.
As accident do happen and one should be aware when keeping a gas cylinder in the home.
Well, to curb such incidents an African Firefighter Dennis Dooshima has brought a trick for all of us.
Dennis has shared a story on Instagram in which she can be seen teaching how to use the gas cylinders at home.
She posted a video and wrote a long caption, ‘Is really disheartening when I read or hear news of gas cylinder explosion in various part of the country which has actually generated some sort of controversy over whether using a phone near cylinder can cause an explosion or not. My answer to this is YES AND NO it depends on how the disaster happened. HOW IS THIS SO? No, because to create a vapour or gas explosion in the air you need an explosive gas mixture and hot source to ignite it(a spark or flame). Meanwhile, cell phones do not make sparks or flames. YES, because the content of the cylinder (gas) might have leaked in the kitchen and phone can ignite gas fumes coming from the leakage and cause a disaster. Although, the expensive gas mixture can accumulate in enclosed spaces, and typically do so only when no one is around. This is because commercial sources of explosive gases have nauseating odours when in dangerous concentrations. How do we prevent this from happening? First and foremost, don’t keep your cylinder inside the kitchen. All cylinders should be kept outside and channelled inside using a pipe. Secondly, never be in a hurry to light a gas cooker, always try and ventilate the kitchen to allow stuffy air out of the kitchen. Also, always inspect cylinder, hose and burner heads for leakages. Rusty cylinders should be replaced. Cylinders whose paint have faded should be repainted to prevent or reduce leakages. Cylinders that have been used for ten years should be replaced.'
