Did you know 'Samosa' is not an Indian snack?
Did you know, our favourite food 'Samosa' is not ours, in-fact it was never ours to start with. Yes, you read that right! Even the original name of Samosa was not samosa. Originally Samosa was called Samsa and it was named after the pyramids in Central Asia.
One of the most popular Indian snacks Samosa basically belongs to South Asian soil and it actually travelled here all the way from Central Asia centuries ago. Samosa came to India in 13th-14th century traveling from Egypt to Libya, Libya to Central Asia and Central Asia to India. Even though Samosa is not ours yet we Indians added our spices and techniques to 'samsa' and as result, we found our favourite food samosa.
Historians also say that Samosa was also named as sanbusak, sanbusaq even sanbusaj in different parts of the world. The samosa was introduced to India during Delhi Sultanate rule by a Middle Eastern chef. In the early days' travellers used to eat samsa as the snack when they used to travel. Soon after snacks for traveller samosa became a royal food for the king and today Samosa is most popular food in different parts of India.
