Femina Miss India Manushi Chillar now aims for Miss World
The biggest beauty pageant of India ended with Manushi Chillar of Haryana, taking home the crown of 2017 Miss Femina Miss India.
In an exclusive interview to ANI, Chillar revealed that she will now be preparing herself to walk down the 2017 Miss World ramp, representing India.
"Right now I am focusing for Miss World. Once I am done with that, I will go back to my studies and complete my MBBS and will establish myself as health worker," said Chillar
The crowned Miss India aspires to do a lot for the poor women of India regarding the menstrual management.
With the present upsurge by the youth of this country due to the labeling of sanitary pads as a luxury item, Chillar's contribution to safeguard the rights of menstruating Indian women is a big step.
She told ANI, "Growing up, I came across really shocking facts regarding the poor menstrual management in our country. I felt disturbed as I feel this is the basic right every woman should have. So I spoke to my parents and started an initiative called 'Project Shakti'."
When asked more about 'Project Shakti' she noted, "I believe, every woman is a form of Shakti. Shakti means power and to empower. I feel, this is a cause that women can connect to. I have propagated the tagline, 'Main Hu Shakti.' I have actually been working on that since a long time to educate women and those in need because menstruation is something that is not really spoken about. It is high time we realise that it has a direct impact on health of women".
At the 54th edition of the Femina Miss India beauty pageant held on June 25 at the Yash Raj Film Studio, Mumbai, outgoing titleholder Priyadarshini Chatterjee crowned Manushi Chillar of Haryana at the end of the event.
