Stranded in Chennai: Woman Came for Cancer Treatment, Can’t Return to Bangladesh
Chennai (Tamil Nadu): A woman from Bangladesh who came to Tamil Nadu for cancer treatment is stranded at Chennai Airport due to the tense situation in her home country.
Flights to Bangladesh Cancelled
Bangladeshi couple Susil Ranjan and Prova Rani have been stuck at Chennai Airport after three flights bound for Bangladesh were cancelled in the past two days.
Treatment
The couple arrived in Tamil Nadu a few months ago for Prova Rani’s cancer treatment. She is currently struggling for her life at Vellore CMC Private Hospital.
Ongoing Crisis Impact
The cancellation of flights is the result of an ongoing crisis in Bangladesh, which has left the couple unable to return home for the last two days.
Airport Authorities' Efforts
Airport authorities are reportedly working to assist the stranded couple as the situation develops.
Gujarat Students Safe
Earlier, Gujarat Education Minister Praful Pansheriya confirmed that 20 Bangladeshi students at Gujarat University, sponsored by the Government of India, are safe. He reported that the university and the Gujarat government are responsible for their security.
Students' Security Assured
Pansheriya mentioned that the university has taken up the responsibility for the safety of all students, including 8 girls and 12 boys. The university and state government are ensuring their well-being.
Indian Nationals in Bangladesh
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stated that about 19,000 Indian nationals in Bangladesh, including 9,000 students. He informed the Lok Sabha that most students had returned to India in July.
