Importance of Healthy Eating During Monsoon Season
Importance of Healthy Eating During Monsoon Season
Jodhpur: According to Ayurveda, the year is divided into two periods - Adana Kala and Visarga Kala. Each period has three seasons, making a total of six seasons in a year. The current season, Varsha Ritu, is the first season of Visarga Kala and falls between July 15 and September 15.
Light and Warm Food
During Varsha Ritu, the digestive system is weakened, and the three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha - are imbalanced. Therefore, it is essential to consume light, easily digestible, and warm food. Foods like old rice, wheat, barley, moong dal, and vegetables like Lauki, Turi, and Bhindi are recommended. Fruits like banana, pomegranate, and jamun are also beneficial. Avoid heavy and cold foods, as they can exacerbate the imbalance of doshas.
Boiled Water and Avoidance of Certain Habits
Drinking boiled water is crucial during this season. Avoid drinking water from rivers and excessive water consumption. Also, refrain from daytime sleep, excessive exercise, and consumption of alcohol and non-vegetarian food. Wear clean and light cotton clothes, and avoid walking barefoot.
Precautions Against Diseases
During Varsha Ritu, the body is more susceptible to diseases like fever, diarrhoea, and skin infections. Take necessary precautions to avoid these diseases. Avoid accumulation of rainwater, and take measures to prevent mosquito bites. Wear full-sleeved clothes and use mosquito nets. Wash fruits and vegetables thoroughly before consumption. Take regular baths, and wear clean clothes. Adding a few tulsi leaves to drinking water is also beneficial.
Ayurvedic Remedies
Ayurveda recommends certain remedies to prevent diseases during Varsha Ritu. Consuming Haritaki Churna with Sendha Namak (rock salt) can help maintain a healthy body.
By following these simple tips and recommendations, one can maintain a healthy body and mind during the monsoon season.
