John Campbell and Shai Hope breaks world record in ODI cricket as West Indies beat Ireland
West Indies openers John Campbell and Shai Hope breaks the world record in one-day international cricket as they notched up the highest first-wicket partnership of 365 runs. They broke the record of Pakistan openers Imam-ul-Haq and Fakhar Zaman’s 304 against Zimbabwe in July last year.
Campbell scored 179 runs while Hope hit 170 to help put 381-3 runs on board against Ireland. Ireland captain William Porterfield won the toss and chose to bowl first against the visitors. Hope was first to reach his century followed by Campbell, which was his first international century.
Campbell and Hope were just seven runs away from breaking the record partnership for any wickets in ODI cricket. The record is also held by their West Indies team-mates Chris Gayle and Marlon Samuels, who scored 373 for record second-wicket partnership against Zimbabwe in 2015 World Cup.
Ireland were bundled out for 185 runs in 34.4 overs with only Kevin O Brien reaching 50 run mark as he scored 68 off 77 before being dismissed by Ashley Nurse. Nurse went on to claim 4 wickets from 7.4 overs.
West Indies and Ireland were playing a practice match ahead of upcoming World Cup in England and Wales. The Caribbean team will play against Bangladesh on Wednesday for their next practice match before World Cup. Some key players are still involved with the Indian Premier League as they are set to return after May 12.
