US Sanctions China-Based Firms for Aiding Pakistan's Missile Programme

Washington: The US State Department has imposed sanctions on several China-based entities for their involvement in Pakistan's ballistic missile programme. These actions were taken under US missile sanctions laws and targeted firms supplying controlled missile technology to Pakistan.

Entities Targeted

Sanctions were applied to five entities and one individual, including the Beijing Research Institute of Automation for Machine Building Industry (RIAMB), which is linked to Pakistan's National Development Complex (NDC). Other sanctioned companies include Hubei Huachangda Intelligent Equipment Company, Universal Enterprise Limited, Xi'an Longde Technology Development Company Limited, and Pakistani firm Innovative Equipment. Additionally, Chinese national Luo Dongmei was sanctioned for their involvement.

Missile Technology Transfer

These firms and individuals were found to have transferred technology controlled under the Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) Annex to support missile programs. The US had previously sanctioned other entities for similar actions, including the Belarus-based Minsk Wheel Tractor Plant.

Ongoing Efforts Against Proliferation

The US State Department reaffirmed its commitment to countering the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, stating it will continue to act against such activities globally. The sanctions aim to disrupt networks involved in missile technology transfer to non-MTCR countries like Pakistan.
