US forces destroy Iranian-backed Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles in Yemen
Florida: US forces have successfully destroyed two Iranian-backed Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles and a Houthi ground control station in Yemen, according to US Central Command.
Uncrewed Vessel Neutralised
In a separate operation, US forces also destroyed a Houthi uncrewed surface vessel in the Red Sea.
Threat to Regional Security
The US Central Command stated that these weapons posed an imminent threat to US and coalition forces, as well as merchant vessels in the region.
UK Maritime Alert Issued
On Friday, the UK's maritime security agency issued a second alert following a missile attack on a vessel off Yemen's coast. The vessel had been previously targeted by attackers in fast boats.
Recent Regional Tensions
The heightened alert follows the recent killings of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh and Hezbollah's military leader Faud Shukr, escalating regional tensions.
Impact on Global Trade
The Houthi attacks have disrupted global trade, with over 50 attacks on shipping since October 7, impacting around 12% of global trade routes through the Red Sea.
