Ukraine Hit by Massive Russian Air Assault, Seven Dead

Russia unleashed one of its largest air assaults on Ukraine since the start of the war, targeting over half of Ukraine's regions.

The attacks, which began overnight and continued into Monday morning, resulted in at least seven deaths and numerous injuries.

The barrage involved 127 missiles and 109 attack drones, with Ukrainian forces successfully intercepting a significant number. However, the damage was still extensive, particularly to power infrastructure, leading to widespread blackouts.

Critical Infrastructure Targeted
The airstrikes focused on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, a long-standing tactic of Russia aimed at crippling essential services.

The entire country was placed under air raid alerts, with citizens urged to seek shelter as missiles and drones struck various targets. One particularly devastating strike occurred in the eastern city of Kryvyi Rih, where a missile hit a civilian building, resulting in one confirmed death and five others presumed missing.

International Response
The attack's scale and intensity drew international condemnation. A Nato spokesperson labelled the breach of Nato airspace by Russia, likely involving a drone, as "irresponsible and potentially dangerous."

This incident occurred in Poland, where an unidentified object, believed to be a drone, entered its territory during the assault. Nato has reiterated its support for Ukraine, condemning Russia's continued aggression and the threat posed by its actions to neighbouring countries.
