Sikh girl forcibly converted to Islam in Pakistan sent to her family, 8 arrested in the matter

The Sikh girl who was allegedly kidnapped and forced to convert to Islam before being married to a Muslim man in Pakistan has sent back to her home. The Police of Nankana Sahib city have arrested 8 people in connection with the matter.

The development comes after India said on Friday that raised the issue with Pakistan and asked for "immediate remedial action". Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said that the ministry has received a number of representations from various quarters of civil society in India, including Sikh religious bodies as the "reports of the incident of abduction and forced conversion of a minor Sikh girl in Pakistan".

"We have shared these concerns with the government of Pakistan and asked for immediate remedial action," said Raveesh Kumar.

Punjab CM Captain Amrinder Singh also sought immediate intervene of Indian and Pakistani government in the matter. Amrinder Singh also demanded to take strict action against those responsible people and said that should not be allowed to get away. He also asked External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to raise the issue with his counterpart in Islamabad.
