Russian President Vladimir Putin criticises Greta Thunberg for her UN speech

Russian President Vladimir Putin criticised climate activist Greta Thunberg, stating that he didn’t feel the excitement about her United Nations speech.

Great Thunberg thrilled the UN summit in New Your when she attacked the world leaders for not being able to act towards climate change, unleashing the fury sensed by millions saying “how dare you”.

Vladimir Putin at an energy forum in Moscow, stated: “I may disappoint you but I don’t share the common excitement about the speech by Greta Thunberg.

“No one has explained to Greta that the modern world is complex and different and … people in Africa or in many Asian countries want to live at the same wealth level as in Sweden.”

Putin also went on to say that young generations who gave attention to climate change must be backed, adding: “But when someone is using children and teenagers in personal interests, it only deserves to be condemned.

“I’m sure that Greta is a kind and very sincere girl. But adults must do everything not to bring teenagers and children into some extreme situations.”

stimulated by the 16 year old’s protest outside the Swedish parliament a year ago, millions of people have voiced solidarity around the world to demand governments take immediate step towards climate change.

Greta told the UN summit: “This is all wrong. I shouldn’t be up here. I should be back in school on the other side of the ocean yet you all come to us young people for hope. How dare you?

“You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words,” she said.

Previously, a member of the Duma, which is the lower house of the Russian parliament had invited Greta Thunberg to Russia to make a speech.
