Prince William and Kate Middleton reveal Prince Louis to be baptized by the Archbishop of Canterbury in July

Prince Louis will be christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury next month, Kensington Palace has announced.

It will take place at The Chapel Royal in St James's Palace, London on Monday July 9 and the Most Reverend Justin Welby will preside over the service.

The Duchess of Cambridge gave birth Prince Louis at 11.01am on April 23 weighing 8lbs 7oz, inside the £5,900-a-stay The Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital in London.

William and Kate are following the birth pattern of the Queen and Philip's children - a son, a daughter and then another son.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge made history for gender equality, with Princess Charlotte remaining fourth-in-line to the throne and her younger brother slipping into fifth ahead of Prince Harry.

Prince George - third-in-line - was also christened at the Chapel Royal, but Charlotte was baptised at the Church of St Mary Magdalene in Sandringham.

After the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge take their newborn home, the next thing to plan will be the Christening.

The ceremony will typically be conducted by The Archbishop of Canterbury in the months after the birth.

Royal Christenings are not confined to one traditional location and in years gone by the service has been held at a number of locations linked to the Monarchy.
