New research finds bottled water contaminated with microplastic particle
Do you know that by drinking water from the plastic bottle we might ingest microplastic particles?
Plastics pollution has always been a concern and this new study conducted by journalism organization Orb Media and researchers at the State University of New York at Fredonia have claimed this and raised new concern which calls for research on possible health issues.
This study was conducted on more than 250 water bottles in more than nine countries.
Samples revealed that microplastic contamination was nearly universal, found in more than 90% of the samples.
In the sample, an average of 10.4 microplastic particles, the width of a human hair was found. There has been twice the level of contamination discovered in the group’s earlier.
The previous study stated that such microplastic particles existed in oceans, lakes, and rivers.
In new bottled water study showed that the contamination was partly the result of plastic packaging, and partly the fault of the bottling process.
However, it isn't clear what kind of effect this has on human health.
According to the research by the European Food Safety Authority, "Nearly 90% of ingested plastic will smoothly pass through a human body, but some of it may end up lodged in the gut."
