First Lady Melania Trump undergoes kidney surgery, expected to remain in hospital for a week
US First lady Melania Trump is hospitalised for a week following the treatment of benign kidney condition on Monday at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington, DC.
According to official White House statement, the first lady Trump had been experiencing an issue with her kidney that is benign but requiring medical attention.
Communications Director of White House Stephanie Grisham said, "This morning, first lady Melania Trump underwent an embolization procedure to treat a benign kidney condition. The procedure was successful, and there were no complications,"
He also added that Melania is likely to remain there for the duration of the week. She looks forward to a full recovery so she can continue her work on behalf of children everywhere.
President Trump tweeted, "Heading over to Walter Reed Medical Center to see our great First Lady, Melania. Successful procedure, she is in good spirits. Thank you to all of the well-wishers!"
Melania is the first US first lady to undergo a serious medical treatment while in the White House.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter wife of the 39th President of the US Jimmy Carter underwent a treatment of benign breast lump in 1977.
Former first lady Elizabeth Anne Ford was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy in 1974.
