Indonesia earthquake: Singapore contributes S$136k to kick start Lombok quake relief fund
An earthquake of magnitude 7.0 hit Indonesia Lombok island killing at least 98 and injuring many others, relief efforts have started and Singapore is also offering assistance in relief. The Republic has offered to assist Indonesia with US$100,000 (S$136,687).
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in a media release offered the assistance. Offering condolence to Indonesia's President Joko Widodo, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and President Halimah Yacob said, "On behalf of the people of Singapore, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the affected families, and wish the injured a quick recovery."
Reiterating the Republic's offer of assistance, both Prime Minister and President of Singapore said, "Singapore offers our assistance in the relief efforts organised by Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency. Our thoughts are with Indonesia and its people during this difficult time."
A travel advisory issued on Monday by the MFA said Singaporeans who are currently in Lombok are advised to make necessary arrangements to leave the area via commercial flights, which are still operating out of Lombok International Airport.
