First turbaned sikh cop shot dead in Texas, foreign minister S Jaishankar reacts

Sandeep Dhaliwal, a 42-year old Indian-American Sikh police officer was shot dead in Texas. Sandeep was conducting a traffic stop when he was shot multiple times. Sandeep, a 10-year veteran was a first turbaned Sikh cop to serve Texas.

India’s foreign minister Dr. S Jaishankar paid condolence to the Indian-American cop and also to his family. “Deeply grieved to learn of the shooting of Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal, a Sikh Indian-American officer in Houston. We have just visited that city. My condolences to his family,” he tweeted.

 

“We immediately looked at his dashcam to see what the suspect looked like and took a photo of the suspect on the scene with their phone and immediately got that out to our intel people,” sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters.

Punjab chief minister Capt. Amrinder Singh also expressed his grief as he tweeted, “Deeply anguished to learn the ruthless killing of Deputy Sheriff of Harris County, Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal. He represented the Sikh community with pride and was the first turbaned police officer of America. My condolences to his family. RIP.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi was in Texas recently for his event ‘Howdy, Modi’ which was held on September 22.

Several videos were also shared by the police department remembering how Mr Dhaliwal touched many lives while serving the people.
