As Saudi women prep up to get behind the wheels, transport ministry lends a helping hand
After a stunning decree by the Saudi King Salman, allowing women to drive in 2018, the Saudi Ministry of Transport invited Saudi Women to "Safe Driving Environment" forum. This would test driving simulations using the ministry's smart transportation system.
This is one of the most visible forms of patriarchy in Saudi Arabia, where guardianship law gives men the final say on whether a woman can travel abroad, obtain a passport or marry.
However, King Salman's trying to change this law and the Ministry of Transport in Saudi Arabia is giving women first-hand experience in safe driving. They are preparing them for the implementation of the Royal Order in June this year.
On March 10, 2018, the official account of the ministry invited women via "Twitter" to attend the "Safe Environment for driving" forum, organised at the University of King Saud for female.
