Alberto storm causes flash flood and landslides in North Carolina

McDowell County in North Carolina is in a life-threatening situation, officials have warned that floodwaters and landslides threaten the Lake Tahoma dam. A  home collapsed in western North Carolina killing two people. Two other victims died in the rubble in Boone, North Carolina.

With a population of 7,800 and 900, cities of Marion and Old Fort are undergoing compulsory evacuations. Four to six inches rainfall over 24 hours has put lives at risk, according to the National Weather Service.

Flood water has reached a level that never seen before since the September 2004 floods that was associated with Hurricanes Frances and Ivan.

Alberto is a subtropical storm, it has caused torrential rain, flash floods and landslides. This has compromised the integrity of Lake Tahoma Dam. Late Monday, the storm with winds up to  65 mph ripped through the Southeastern US, causing power outages and killing two South Carolina journalists.
