4.2 magnitude earthquake hits Indonesia’s Sumatra

An earthquake of magnitude 4.2 on the Richter scale hit Indonesia’s Northern Sumatra on January 2 evening, the National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

According to the readings from the centre, the earthquake measuring 4.2 occured at 16:10:04 IST and its epicenter was found to be at 5.26 degrees south latitude and 97.04 degrees east longitude.

The depth of the earthquake was recorded 10 km below the ground, according to the National Centre for Seismology (NCS).

No casualties have been reported so far. Further details are awaited.
