Worli Hit Run Case: Two accused confess to crime, sent to Mumbai police custody

Mumbai (Maharashtra): Two accused in the Worli hit-and-run case have confessed to their roles and are in custody.

Confession and Police Investigation

According to police sources, Mihir Shah and his driver Rajrishi Bidawat were both confronted during interrogation. "Both accused confessed their roles, and the police recreated the scene from CJ House Worli to Sea Link Worli," said the police.

Legal Proceedings

Earlier on Wednesday, a Mumbai court sent Mihir Shah to police custody until July 16. Shah was arrested in Virar on Tuesday and brought to Sewri court in Mumbai on Wednesday. He had been absconding after allegedly hitting a scooter on Dr Annie Besant Road in Worli on Sunday, July 7.

Arrests and Public Reaction

Fourteen teams were formed by Mumbai police to nab him. Police arrested Rajrishi Singh Bidawat and Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, for their involvement. The deceased woman's husband, Pradeep Nakhwa, questioned the delay in the arrest and alleged that politics were involved, delaying the arrest because the accused was the son of a political leader.

Victim's Identity and Incident Details

According to Mumbai police, the 45-year-old victim was a resident of Worli Koliwada. Her husband, riding the scooter, also sustained injuries. "The couple was returning home after buying fish when the scooter was hit by the luxury car. Both sustained injuries, and the woman died during treatment," police added.

Political Connections

The luxury car belonged to a political party leader based in Maharashtra's Palghar. The incident follows less than two months after a similar hit-and-run in Pune, where a luxury car driven by a 17-year-old under the influence of alcohol killed two software engineers.

Government Response

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed his alarm at the rise in hit-and-run incidents and directed strict police action. The Shiv Sena removed Rajesh Shah from the party following his arrest.
