Weather Update: Mercury level rises in Delhi; rainfall expected in next few days

The temperature in the national capital increased to 44.2 degrees at Safdurjung on Sunday. Delhi witnessed heat wave conditions with residents reeling under high temperatures.

According to the weather agency, the maximum temperature rose from 43.9 degrees Celsius on Saturday to 44.2 degrees Celsius, four degrees above usual in Delhi.

The temperature rose up to 47.3 degrees Celsius in Delhi's Northwest station, Mugeshpur, making it the hottest station in the national capital. The temperature at the Sports Complex was 46.6 degrees Celsius.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has also forecasted heatwave-like conditions for several areas in the national capital on Monday as well.

While the maximum temperature rose at many weather stations across Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted some relief is expected from 11th June.

With the southwest monsoon likely to arrive on 25th June in the national capital, some rainfall in the coming few days might bring respite from the sweltering heat.

As maintained by the IMD's seven-day prediction, strong surface winds are likely during the daytime untill 11th June. However, the weather agency has predicted a partly cloudy sky with the possibility of rainfall or a thunderstorm from 12th June.
