German Chancellor Angela Merkel, whose two day visit to Delhi met with one of the worst stint of pollution in the National Capital region, stated that an Indo-German partnership for green urban mobility has been launched by both the nations where they have allocated $ 1 billion towards the same.
Furthermore, the German Chancellor also said that Euros 200 million have also been allocated to reform bus sector in Tamil Nadu. “Whoever has looked at pollution in Delhi yesterday would find very good arguments to replacing diesel buses with electric buses” she said.
Earlier, a Supreme Court mandated panal declared a public health emergency in the national capital and prohibited construction works till 5th November as the air quality plunged to severe plus category.
Holding adjacent states accountable for turning Delhi into a gas chamber, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal gave out over 50 lakh masks to school kids and urged other residents to use them.
The blanket of smog over the national capital continued to condense with Delhi’s pollution levels swelling by around 50 points everyday, taking the air quality index to 459 on Friday.
