UP man attacks cops at Gorakhnath temple with sickle, video goes viral [Watch]
In a shocking incident coming in from Uttar Pradesh, a man attacked UP Provincial Armed Constabulary personnel stationed at the Gorakhnath temple in Gorakhpur on Sunday.
The attacker, identified as Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, a chemical engineer, was taken into custody after a brief chase. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest of the Gorakhnath temple.
Two constables were reportedly injured during the incident.

As maintained by sources, Abbasi graduated as chemical engineering from IIT-Mumbai in 2015 and is a native of the Civil Lines area of Gorakhpur. The UP anti-terrorist squad on Monday began probing the case. In a clip that is being extensively shared, Abbasi can be seen chasing cops with a sickle while the policemen and passersby throw bricks at him to defend themselves.
Abbasi’s father Mohammad Munir said he has not been in the right state of mind since 2017. Even his marriage broke because of his mental health and his tendency to live alone. Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi has undergone medical treatment in many cities, including Ahmedabad, his father said.
Abbasi recently arrived from Mumbai. ADG Gorakhpur Akhil Kumar said that Abbasi is being interrogated on why he came to Gorakhnath temple and what his link was with Mumbai. Four teams of police have been deployed for the probe.
Mohammad Munir has been a legal advisor in several finance firms and his brother, a doctor, is the proprietor of Gorokhpur’s Abbasi Hospital.
