UP: Man arrested after he strangled his pregnant wife, burnt her body after chopping it

A 35-year-old man in Uttar Pradesh has been apprehended after he strangulated his 27-year-old pregnant wife, diced the body into pieces, burnt it and then disposed the cadaver on the suburbs of Rae Bareli.

The incident happened on 4th January but it was reported only on Tuesday after the victim Urmila’s elder daughter, who was present at the spot when the crime took place, reached her maternal grandmother’s house and unfolded the incident.

Following the complaint filed by the victim’s family, the police took the accused, Ravindra Kumar into custody, and recovered the charred remains which have been sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory for DNA profiling.

"After we received a complaint, a team visited Ravindra's home and informed Deeh police. Cops tried to trace the woman but failed. On January 10, Urmila's sister Vidya Devi reached Deeh police station and filed a report against Ravindra accusing him of killing her sister," senior police officer Vineet Singh said.

Senior police officer Mr Singh stated that Kumar dialed UP 112 on 4th January and notified the police the Urmila was missing.

Urmila tied knot with Ravindra in 2011 and the couple have two daughter, who is seven and eleven years old respectively.

In accordance with the police, Ravindra wanted a boy in the family and was doubting that Urmila would deliver a baby girl again.

Ravindra’s elder daughter stated that her grandfather and uncles were also involved in the crime.

A police team was sent to arrest the accused but he was found missing from the house. "We roped in an officer from Childline and talked to the girl who narrated how her mother was subjected to brutality on January 4," the police officer said.

On Tuesday, six teams were formed which arrested all the accused.

Kumar cracked up during interrogation and admitted that following an argument, he strangled his wife in anger and cut her body into pieces with a sharp edged weapon before grinding the pieces in a flour mill.

He stated that he burnt the remains, packed the ash in a gunny bag and dumped it in thickets 4-km away from his house.
