UP: Man allegedly murdered for not getting tested for coronavirus after his return from Delhi
A man lost his life after he was beaten up by his cousins for not getting tested for the Covid-19 after he returned back from Delhi. The incident happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Malakpur village in Bijnor. Manjeet Singh, who was 23 years of age died during treatment in Meerut on Friday.
An FIR has been lodged against victim’s cousins Kapil and Manoj, their mother Puniya and Manoj’s wife Dolly at the Nahtapur police station on a complaint registered by the victim’s father Kalyan Singh on Friday.
Satya Prakash Singh, SHO, Nahtaur police station stated that no arrest have been made thus far. Accordinng to report, Manjeet died because of head injuries.
His sample was not collected for a coronavirus test by doctors in the time of treatment.
Sanjay Kumar, Additional SP, Bijnor stated that he went through thermal screening when he arrived at Bijnor on 19th May from the national capital. The report was negative so his sample was not taken.
Satya Prakash Singh SHO stated, "Since his return, Kapil and Manoj were regularly asking Manjeet to get his test done. On Thursday, the cousins again asked Manjeet to get his test done after which an argument ensued between them."
"The accused brought sticks and started hitting Manjeet. He suffered injuries on the head and shoulder. When Manjeet fell unconscious, he was rushed to government hospital by his parents where he succumbed to injuries a day later," said Singh.
Dr Vijay Yadav, Chief Medical Officer, Bijnor, stated that he has "no information" about the case.
