UP horror: Woman kills 4-year-old stepdaughter
A woman was on Thursday taken into police custody for allegedly murdering her four-year-old stepdaughter at Rajanpur village in the Kunda locality, which falls under the jurisdiction of Pratapgarh police station in Uttar Pradesh.
The accused woman has been identified as Shanti Devi. The body of the minor girl, who went missing on Tuesday, was recovered inside an unused well on Wednesday.
SHO of Kunda police station Pradeep Kumar Singh said that the accused (Shanti Devi), the third wife of Dinesh Kumar Saroj of the village has been taken into police custody for killing her stepdaughter as she didn’t like her because of the way the minor used to pass comments on her.
On Tuesday, when the girl was playing with other kids in the area, Shanti Devi took her to the well on the pretext of some work and pushed her inside it which culminated to the death of the minor girl.
The minor dead body was spotted by the villagers after a foul smell emanated from the well.
In due course, police rushed to the village and arrested Shanti Devi for interrogation after her husband expressed suspicion over her involvement in the case. She confessed to have committed the crime during the interrogation.
The accused Shanti Devi told the cops that her stepdaughter often used to pass comments on her and pick faults in her household chores, including her cooking. The girl also used to complain to her father and other family members about her.
“The minor girl continued to complain against her and passed comments continued on her stepmother even after Shanti Devi became pregnant. Then Shanti Devi planned to kill the girl and pushed her into the well on Tuesday,” said the SHO.
An FIR was filed against the accused for killing the minor girl. In the meantime, Shanti Devi has been sent to jail, the SHO added.
