UP: Girl student raped by Instagram friend; accused arrested from wedding ceremony

In a shocking incident, a girl from was allegedly raped by a man whom she met on Facebook-owned photosharing App Instagram a month back in Uttar Pradesh's Tajganj area. The incident came to fore after the victim underwent a medical test at a private hospital recently.

The accused Darsh Gautam(23), who is an aviation diploma course is a resident of Hathras district in UP.

According to reports, Gautam came in contact with the 20-year-old undergraduate student a month ago through Instagram. Soon after they met each other on the social media platform, they became good friends. On Wednesday they both went to a hotel in Tajgangj area, where the youth allegedly raped her.

As per the complaint filed by the girl, the youth had offered a soft drink after they reached the hotel. Soon she had the drink, she felt unconscious.

One hour later, when she gained consciousness, she found injuries in her private part. The girl then went to a private hospital in the locality for medical examination and later, her friends took the victim to SN Medical College. Later the girl filed a complaint against the youth in, following which the police launched a probe and arrested him from Aligarh where he had gone to attend a wedding ceremony.

On the other hand, the accused confessed to the crime during investigation.

As per police, CCTV footage has been retrieved by cops, which shows that the duo reached the hotel in Tajganj area on Wednesday morning. “The accused has confessed to his crime and he was sent for medical examination,” said a police officer.
