UP: Couple murders kids before hanging themselves due to financial problem

In an appalling incident reported from Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur, a couple allegedly murdered their two kids ahead of hanging themselves in their residence in Kache Katra area due to financial difficulties, police said on Monday.

The dead bodies of Akhilesh Gupta (42), his wife Rishu Gupta (39), their son Shivang (12) and daughter Harshita (9) were discovered hanging in a room. Superintendent of Police, S Anand said.

The matter became known when someone called on Akhilesh Gupta's phone and when the call was not answered he went to his home, the SP said. In the suicide note, Akhilesh Gupta, who was a medicine trader, pointed at financial trouble as a reason for taking the step, the SP added.

While the dead bodies of Akhilesh Gupta and his wife were found in one room, those of his kids were found in other rooms, the SP said.

According to police, the couple first hanged their children and then ended their lives.

Circle Officer (City) Pravin Kumar said the deceased were native of Faridpur area of Bareilly and had been living here in a rented apartment for the past 15 years.

Recently, Akhilesh Gupta had used up all his savings in the construction of a new house following which he had taken a loan from an acquaintance. As maintained by the suicide note, Gupta was being pressurised by the lender to repay the loan which led to the tension in the becaused of which he took the step, the CO said.

On the basis of the complaint filed by Akhilesh Gupta’s father, a case has been lodged against the accused who mentally harassed him and his family for money, police said.
