UP: 20-year-old youth fakes own kidnapping to falsely implicate girlfriend's father
A 20-year-old youth allegedly faked his own kidnapping with a help of his friend in order to falsely his girlfriend’s father in Uttar Pradesh. He, along with his friend, was traced down and taken into custody by the Sultanpur police on Thursday.
The youth, recognized as Jitendra Kumar, is a resident of Amethi. He was staying at his maternal grandmother’s house in Nevadanpur village which falls under the jurisdiction of Lambhua police station in Sultanpur district.
The next day, his father Surendra Kumar got a phone call, informing him that Jitendra has been kidnapped. The caller demanded a ransom of Rs 10 lakh for his safe release. Later, the family went to the police for help and efforts were initiated to rescue Jitendra.
Investigators became doubtful of the kidnapping story after finding out that the ransom call was made using Jitendra’s phone. “We found that the mobile phone of Jitendra had been used to make the call. We also noticed that the SIM card was changed around 2 am on January 24, but the ransom call was made around 8 am,” a report by The Times of India quoted a senior police official as saying.
The investigating officers also found out that the SIM used for making the call was bought in the name of Jitendra’s friend, identified as Ravi. Later, officials, using technical surveillance, located their hideout and arrested them.
In the time of questioning, Jitendra told the police that he is in a relationship with a girl. Her father, however, did not approve of their relationship. So, he faked his kidnapping in order to falsely incriminate him.
