Tri-Netra System: Indian Railways to introduce new facility to reduce accident during fog
Railway Minister Piyush Goyal has made several announcements like jobs in Railways, new facilities in Railways, women safety, etc., during Rajya Sabha question hours on June 28th, 2019 (Friday). During the session, Railway Minister also revealed about the new Technology, 'Tri-Netra' that will tackle with fog during Winter.
Indian Railways is conducting extensive trials of Tri-Netra (three eyes) technology which would be used to reduce train accidents.
However, the trial is still going on. Goyal said that Tri-Netra system is another attempt by the Railways to develop modern technology.
Before Railways get the ball rolling, let us informed you about this modern technology, Tri-Netra:
1. Tri-Netra also stands for 'Terrain Imaging for Drivers Infrared, Enhanced, Optical & Radar Assisted system'.
2. It comprises of Infrared Camera, Optical Camera and Radar assisted imaging system which will work as the third eyes (Tri-Netra) of the Locomotive Pilot.
3. This modern technology would assist the Loco pilots to identify the obstacles on the track, especially during foggy weather and it would also help in reducing accidents.
4. Tri-Netra is an attempt of Railways to detect obstructions on tracks during fog through ultrasonic waves.
Besides, this new technology, Piyush Goyal also responded to the query on lack of availability of water on trains. “Railways have now taken a policy decision that we are changing the system for high-pressure pumping so that water tanks get full and nobody has problems during the journey.”
Also, Railways is planning to install a small Reverse Osmosis water plant at some stations so as to provide drinking facilities for passengers.
