Telangana Honour Killing: Parents killed 20-year-old pregnant daughter while she was asleep

An honour killing case has come to light from Telangana where parents killed their pregnant daughter when she was asleep.

According to the news agency, PTI reports, the 20-year-old woman was allegedly smothered to death by her parents for being in love with a man from another caste. Her parents wanted to abort the child which she refused to do.

The parents killed their daughter by using a pillow while she was sleeping in the early hours of June 7 in their house in Kalukuntla in Jogulamba-Gadwal district, police said on Tuesday.

However, the accused parents tried to project the murder as natural death and claimed that she died of a heart attack.

According to the reports, the suspicion was raised by the village secretary over the death of the woman. Police were alerted about the incident and then an investigation was launched.

The couple was booked under relevant section 302 of the Indian Penal Code after post mortem report revealed the reason for the woman’s death.

The parents killed their daughter a day after she was found pregnant and refused to undergo an abortion, police said.

The woman was in a relationship with the man while pursuing her degree course in Kurnool district in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh. Her parents feared that their daughter may elope with her paramour. They were pressurizing the girl for abortion. Initially, she agreed, later she denied to abort the child.

After killing the girl, her parents told everyone that she died of a heart attack. When a police team went to their home and insisted on a post-mortem after they saw some marks of struggle. However, the accused parents tried to stop them, saying there was no need.

However, the autopsy report of the woman revealed that she was "throttled to death".

Later, her parents confessed to the crime during interrogation, the official said. Police arrested them in the charge of murder.
