Supreme Court favours live-streaming of court proceedings
A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra on Monday favoured live-streaming of court proceedings and asked Attorney General KK Venugopal to make his submissions regarding the matter on July 23, the next date for hearing.
The three-judge bench, also comprising Justices AM Khanwilkar and DY Chandrachud, sought suggestions from the bar association members on the matter.
The top court said that it will issue guidelines for the live streaming of court proceedings.
The plea was filed in the court by senior advocate Indira Jaising in her personal capacity, who said that judges in India have always been reluctant towards recording court hearings, unlike the rest of the world, where court hearings are made available for the public, in different ways.
According to reports, Jaising said that citizens have the right to information on matters of constitutional and national importance.
