Shardhha Murder Case: ‘Aftab got violent after Shraddha met a friend’, says Delhi Police in chargesheet
In the latest development in the Shardhha Walkar murder case, the woman who was killed and chopped into pieces by her boyfriend, the Delhi Police have filed its chargesheet in the Saket Court today, January 24. The 6,636-page chargesheet was filed by the police within 75 days.
Aftab Amin Poonawalla, who killed Shardhha and chopped her body into 35 pieces, was also produced before the court through video conferencing.
The Saket Court will take cognizance of the chargesheet on February 7. The bench also instructed the police to produce Aftab physically before the court on the given time. His judicial custody has also been extended till February 7.
Giving details, Joint CP Southern Range Meenu Choudhary said that the Delhi Police has filed the chargesheet and over 150 statements were recorded in the barbaric murder case.
Choudhary also revealed the reason behind the murder of Shardhha Walkar. She said that on the day of the incident, Shardhha had gone to meet a friend whom Aftab did not like, and he became violent and killed her.
“The day the incident occurred the accused didn't like that she (Shraddha) had gone to meet a friend. On this ground, he became violent and the incident happened,” Choudhary said.
Shardhha Walkar Murder Case
Aaftab Amin Poonawala confessed before the police about the crime. He killed Shardhha by strangulating her, and then he chopped her body into 35 pieces. Aftab kept the body pieces in a refrigerator at his residence in Mehrauli in South Delhi in May last year, before dumping them in a jungle over several days.
Aaftab Poonawala was arrested by the Delhi Police after the complaint by Shraddha’s father. Aaftab, who works at a call centre in Gurugram, confessed to strangling Shraddha Vikas Walkarand chopping her body into 35 pieces for over two days, storing them into a refrigerator (for three months) and dumping the body parts piece by piece in a forest near Chhattarpur and Qutub Minar.
The couple, who are both from Maharashtra, lived together in Vasai (West), Maharashtra, till February 2022. They then traveled to Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand before arriving in Delhi.
