Rajasthan: 4 dead, 7 injured in lightning strikes; more rainfall likely

At least four people, including three women, were killed and seven others were injured in lightning strikes in Pali and Chittorgarh cities of Rajasthan on October 9.

Rukma (30), Rupi (40), and Prem Devi (45) were working in a field in Chotila village of Pali city when lightning struck them. The village falls under the Rohat Police Station.

According to SHO Uday Singh Shekhawat, seven others were injured in the incident, of which five people have been referred to Jodhpur for treatment as their condition was critical.

Sunda Lal Kanjar, a resident of Chittorgarh city, was killed in a lightning strike when he was sitting on the balcony of his house.

Several parts of Rajasthan witnessed light to moderate showers during the last 24 hours. Some places also witnessed downpours in the same period.

Weather Update:

According to Jaipur Met director Radheshyam Sharma, light to moderate showers were recorded in parts of eastern Rajasthan, while downpours were recorded in isolated places in Banswara, Pratapgarh, Jhalawar, Karauli, Dholpur, Baran, Sawai Madhopur, and Kota districts.

Karauli city received the highest amount of rainfall (118mm) in the last 24 hours. As per IMD, showers are likely to batter Rajasthan for the next two-three days.

Due to an active western disturbance system, rains are likely in most parts of East Rajasthan in the next two days. However, the western parts of the state-Bikaner and the Jodhpur divisions would continue to witness cloudy weather for the next two-three days. There is also a possibility of light showers in some places.
