Railway Job Scam: Lakhs of Rupees Duped
Hooghly: In a shocking incident, a man named Abhijit Chaudhary has been accused of cheating people of lakhs of rupees in the name of providing railway jobs. The accused, who resides in Ward 8 of Hugli-Chunchura Municipality, has been allegedly running a racket where he would promise people railway jobs in exchange for money.
According to sources, Abhijit would give fake appointment letters to his victims and would take money from them. He would promise them jobs in the Group C and D categories of the railway department. The victims would only realize they had been cheated after three months when they would not receive their salaries.
One of the victims, Subir De, a resident of Baguihati, had introduced several people to Abhijit, thinking he was a genuine person who could help them get government jobs. However, Abhijit would take money from these people and disappear.
Subir's wife, Maumita, said that her husband had introduced a woman to Abhijit, who had promised her a railway job. Abhijit had taken money from the woman, but she never got the job. This incident had sparked a protest outside Abhijit's house, where several people gathered to demand justice.
Local councillor, Nirmal Chakraborty, who arrived at the spot, warned people against falling prey to such frauds. "People should be cautious and not fall prey to such scams. It is not possible to get a government job by paying money," he said.
Abhijit's wife, Swpana Chaudhary, claimed that she was unaware of her husband's activities and that he had gone to Asansol for work. Abhijit, who used to teach tuition earlier, had later worked in a private company, but had never worked in the railways.
The police have registered a written complaint against Abhijit and are investigating the matter.
