Pune boys rob, murder elderly woman after getting inspired by TV show
In what was an appalling incident reported from Pune, two boys allegedly killed a 70-year-old woman. Police on Tuesday took both the suspects aged 16 and 14 into their custody. Reportedly, the gruesome act of murder was inspired by a television show known as CID.
The elderly victim has been identified as Shalini Babanrao Sonawane, who was found dead with a head injury at her house in Sayali apartment. The incident became known on 30th October, after the victim’s son, identified as Virat Sonawane, registered an FIR.
The victim’s son in his police complaint also mentioned that cash and jewelleries worth Rs 1.6 lakh were stolen from his house. At first, police registered a case under Sections 359 and 459 of the Indian Penal Code against unknown persons.
In the meantime, police team led by inspector Devidas Ghevare and inspector Pramod Waghmare began an investigation in this case. Earlier, the Sinhagad police put out a statement saying cops are still looking for indications about the murderers even after 48 hours of the unfortunate incident.
According to reports in Times Now, both the accused got inside the victim's house at around 01:30 pm on 30th October when she was all by herself at home. The duo knew the deceased victim well and had visited her residence. As per the police team probing the matter, both attacked the elderly woman and chocked her. They also looted Rs 93,000 money and gold ornaments worth Rs 67,500 from her house and escaped from the crime spot.
As quoted by the Indian Express, the released statement stated, “They decided to rob her when she was alone at her house. Accordingly, the two minor boys went to her home around 01:30 pm on October 30 when she was alone and watching television”.
Furthermore, the report indicates that one of the minor suspects had a history of committing theft and carried out the horrific crime by imitating tricks from the television show CID. While talking about the incident, the police team said, both boys have not been taken into police custody as they are minors.
