Online Fraud: Africans dupe Goa woman of Rs 37 lakh via matrimonial site
Two Delhi-based Africans have allegedly duped a woman from Goa of Rs 37 lakh through a matrimonial site.
The two men have been arrested by a joint team of cybercrime officials from the Goa and Delhi Police on Tuesday.
Online Fraud:
The victim woman lodged the complaint at the Cyber Crime Police station. In her complaint, the woman told police that one person had lured her by proposing marriage to her on a matrimonial sit by creating a fake profile. According to the news agency, ANI, the imposter posed as a doctor in a foreign country and allegedly lured the woman by telling her that he would be sending some expensive gifts to her, but on the pretext of custom clearances for the foreign gifts, the fraud man defrauded the victim of a total of Rs 37 lakh, police said.
As soon as the victim realized that she was duped she immediately approached the Cyber Crime Police Station and filed the complaint.
During the investigation, it was revealed that an organized gang of criminals with fake identities was behind the crime.
The fraudsters identified as Tsoupa Sebastien from Cameroon and Senehuoun Franck from Ivory Coast. The two accused were residing in the Mehrauli area in Delhi, police said.
Police recovered several mobile phones, SIM cards issued on fake identities from the two Delhi-based Africans along with the database of 650 people whom they defrauded earlier.
Meanwhile, police are further investigating the matter.
