Odisha: 19-year old woman gangraped while going for holy dip on Makar Sankranti

A woman was allegedly gang-raped by two people while she was on her way to take a holy dip on the occasion of Makar Sankranti in Odisha’s Baripada on Thursday, police said.

As per a report by news agency PTI, two people from the locality started to follow the woman and her sister who were going towards a river to take a holy dip.

The horrible incident happened when one of the sisters was taking a dip in the river and her sibling was standing by the river bed.

The accused lifted her to an isolated area and allegedly raped her. As she cried for help, the duo ran away from the crime spot, police said.

The victim registered a complaint at Baripada police station on the basis of which the two accused were taken into custody, Birendra Senapati, Inspector-in-Charge of the police station, said.

The medical examination of the woman was conducted in PRM Medical College and Hospital.
