North East girl brought to Goa on pretext of job, confined, raped for three days

Days following two minor girls from the North East were allegedly gang-raped in Goa, one more such incident has transpired in the state. Reportedly, a girl from the North East was taken to Goa on the pretext of work was confined and raped for three days. The horrifying incident of crime occurred in Goa’s Quepem area. According to reports, this is the third rape case reported to the state police.

The accused have been identified as Shambhunath Singh and Sudhakar Naik. Shambhunath is a native of Delhi and Sudhakar belongs to South Goa. Reportedly, the accused took the victim to Goa on 26th July, on the pretext of a job.

According to India Today, After her arrival to Goa, the accused confined the girl and raped her for three days. However, the victim managed to run away from the place she was kept in on Thursday. It was from here, the victim alerted the police and complaint was filed under section 376 (rape) and 343 (wrongful confinement) of the IPC.

After the gang-rape case of two minor girls was revealed from the state, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant passed a few comments that led to a fall out. In the state Assembly, Sawant said that parents must examine their thoughts on why their daughters were 'out late' at night.

"When 14-year-olds stay on the beach the entire night, the parents need to introspect. Just because children don’t listen, we cannot put the responsibility on the government and police,"Sawant added.

Following this, many people criticised the CM for his point of view on the safety of women and their right.
