Mysuru woman allegedly gang-raped by group of men, NCW takes cognisance

In a massive turn of events in Mysuru gang-rape case, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken cognisance of the matter. NCW chairperson Rekha Sharma has written to the Director General of Police (DGP), Karnataka, asking him to ensure that all suspects are identified and arrested at the earliest possible time.

The case has also been taken up by the chairperson of the Karnataka State Commission for Women. While an FIR has been filed, no arrest has been made so far. The investigation is being led by ADGP Prathap Reddy.

Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai talking about the incident on Thursday said, "The girl was gang-raped and hospitalised, while the boy was beaten badly. It's an unfortunate incident. My government has taken it very seriously. The perpetrators will be caught soon and brought to justice. "
According to the Mirror Now', the girl was paying a visit to Chamundi Hills with her male friend at around 7.30 pm on Tuesday. The duo got down from their two-wheeler and went into the forest area on the foothills. It was during this time that the accused stopped them.

Seemingly, the accused demanded money from the duo and when the they refused, they allegedly beat up the man and gang-raped the woman. The woman's friend took the girl to the hospital and approached the police.

The FIR was registered on Wednesday. It has also been alleged that the cops came to know about the crime after 12 hours. Karnataka minister Araga Jnanendra said that the victim is in a stable condition. He added that the statement of the woman has not been recorded yet as she is still in trauma. He said, "This is an unfortunate case. Today evening I'm going to Mysuru. I'll speak with police on the incident. "
